Townhomes are often less expensive than traditional "detached" homes due to their smaller footprint and minimal yard. And according to recent data from the Commerce Department, they are surging in popularity as people - specifically millennials - look for an affordable path to homeownership.
Starts for townhomes increased to 28,000 in 2016's second quarter, the highest level since the fourth quarter of 2007. In the past four quarters combined, townhome construction spiked 26 percent, more than double the growth for single family homes.
Here in the Permian Basin, Permian Homes has been a leader in townhome construction since their start in 2007. Parks Legado, Old Course Estates and Devon Court, all located in Odessa, are communities that feature both one- & two-story townhomes, ranging in size from 1,200 square feet to 2,006 square feet. Devon Court is currently an active build site, with two buildings completed and three more under construction. These luxury homes are 1,599 square feet with 3 bedrooms, 2 baths and a 2 car garage. With pricing starting at $209,990 and a desirable location near the Odessa Country Club and the blossoming shopping, dining and retail district of Parks Legado, its easy to see why these affordable and generally maintenance-free homes are a popular choice among local homebuyers.
