Beauty in the Details: Dreams of Field Owner and Permian Homes Contractor Brian Field

Dream Image

Brian Field, born and raised in Odessa, learned to work with his hands by working side by side with his grandfather.  As a carpenter, Brian has worked on more than 4,000 homes in the last 10 years.

Creating everything from closets to stairways, Brian and his company, Dreams of Field, has been with Permian Homes from the beginning.

Today, Brian explains why he loves working with Permian Homes every day.

Tell me about your company.

I have a lot to be proud of, a lot to be thankful for.  I have a great crew, guys who are very meticulous and pay close attention to detail.

We do custom woodwork, it is important to me that we maintain high quality woodwork, that we fix problems before anyone else knows there is a problem.  When a new homeowner walks in to their home, they might not notice how every corner of trim lines up just-so, but they will certainly notice if it doesn’t.

It is our job to get it done right, to make sure our work is something everyone can be happy with.

What is it like to work with Permian Homes?

Permian Homes isn’t like most other companies out here.   Because they are based here in Odessa/Midland, I actually get to have conversations with the owner and with the president of the company.  I get to see how they work, get to know their ethics.

I remember back in the very beginning, seeing David Martin sweeping the sidewalks along the community.  David is someone who is very influential in this community, he is the owner of Permian Homes, but he knew the work needed to be done so he did it.  That’s just the kind of guy he is.

Knowing the ethics of the leaders in this company makes a big difference, too.  David Martin and Dave Cook both are exceptional people. They do all they can to instill their ethics into the leaders, the building supervisors that work for them and it shows.

The building supervisors have an eye for detail that is unmatched. I like that; my passion for woodworking is in the detail of the project, that’s how Permian is about their entire process.

The building supers have detailed lists that help keep me focused, help keep my guys focused. We know what is going on even if the super isn’t here.  There is a big difference between working on a home with an organized list and one without. When the super helps us keep organized, we feel like we are better able to do what the homeowner wants us to do, and we like that.

I enjoy working with Permian Homes.

You’ve been working in the Permian Basin for a long time, you grew up here; do you have any predictions about the future?

There will definitely be ups and downs, but Permian Homes is here to stay.  They are the only major homebuilder who is based out of the Midland/Odessa area. This is their home too, and nobody is going to take that away from us.

Permian Homes is about more than building houses, they are about building homes, building neighborhoods and communities. Places where families can grow.

These guys put a smile and a name to every handshake, they know their customers.

I look forward to working with Permian Homes for as long as they will have me.
